This Week in WCC Baseball - April 11

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Portland remains unbeaten in Conference play at 6-0 in the West Coast Conference Baseball standings after two straight series sweeps. The Pilots will tangle with San Diego and its current 10-game winning streak this weekend. 

Gonzaga and San Diego are not far behind the Pilots, tied for second at 7-2. Pepperdine stands in fourth with a Conference record of 6-3. 

This Week
Portland might be in first place, but San Diego is on fire right now, riding a 10-game winning streak. San Diego looks to keep its winning streak going when the Toreros and the Pilots battle for league supremace this weekend in Portland. 

Gonzaga looks to keep pace with a road trip to San Francisco this weekend. Santa Clara hosts the surging Waves and LMU welcomes Saint Mary's to Los Angeles. 

In non-conference action, Pacific treks to the midwest to face Kansas.  

Last Week
San Diego knocked off UC San Diego to improve its current winning streak to 10 games. The Toreros got to nine after sweeping LMU at home prior to the win over the Tritons. Jakob Christian batted .563 (9-for-16) last week, earning Rawlings WCC Player of the Week honors. 

Portland's Sam Stuhr won Rawlings WCC Pitcher of the Week after notching a career-best 13 strikeouts for the Pilots. Portland swept Pacific to remain unbeaten in Conference play. 

The Bulldogs kept pace with the Toreros and the Pilots with a home sweep over Santa Clara. 

Pepperdine took two out of three at home over San Francisco to improve to 6-3 in WCC games this season. 

In non-conference action, Saint Mary's won a home series over Grand Canyon in Moraga. 

Stat Leaders
Portland pitching has been racking up the strikeouts as Nick Brink ranks tied for eighth nationally in strikeouts (69) and Sam Stuhr is right behind at No. 12 in the nation with 65. 

The reigning WCC Player of the Year, Christian Almanza of Saint Mary's continues to hit for power. He ranks 16th in the nation in slugging percentage (.826). In addition, his 13 home runs lead the WCC, although San Diego's Jakob Christian is chasing him down, boasting 11 roundtrippers.
