No. 3 Washington State Sweeps No. 6 Portland

The Cougars will meet San Diego in the semifinals

SAN DIEGO - No. 3 seed Washington State swept No. 6 seed Portland in the quarterfinals of the West Coast Conference Women's Tennis Tournament at the Aztec Tennis Complex on the San Diego State campus. The Cougars advanced to Friday's semifinals to face No. 2 seed San Diego. 

The doubles matches were down to the wire on all three courts. Portland took an early lead before WSU came charging back. The two wins were both by the score of 7-5 on the second and third courts with Chisato Kanemake and Elyse Tse clinching the doubles point on court two and Hania Abouelsaad and Martina Markov winning the first doubles match on court 3. 

In singles, the Cougars picked up wins on courts two, four and six, all three in straight sets. Eva Alvarez Sande knocked off Alaia Rubio Perez, 6-2, 7-5, on the second court, holding off a battling Perez. On court four, Hania Aboulesaad defeated Isabella Marquart, 6-4, 6-3, and Martina Markov provided the third Cougar singles victory, 6-2, 6-0 over Maria Galatescu. 

The Cougars and Toreros will meet on Friday at 10 a.m. in the semifinals.
