FAIRFIELD, Calif. – Pepperdine junior Mahanth Chirravuri won the 2025 West Coast Conference Men's Golf Individual Championship on Saturday at Green Valley Country Club in a playoff over teammate Kristoffer Kuvaas. With the third round of stroke play complete, the 10-team field was cut to four and the conference team champion will be decided in match play on Sunday.
At the conclusion of an eventful third round, Chirravuri and Kuvaas were tied at 15-under 201, but 54 holes weren’t enough to decide the individual champion. Chirravuri and Kuvaas went back and forth during the final nine holes Saturday afternoon. Kuvaas erased a three-stroke deficit at one point to storm back and eventually take the lead heading into the final third of his round. Four players – Cade Anderson, Carlos Astiazaran, Rylan Johnson and J.P. Odland – were three strokes back at the round’s conclusion. The Pepperdine pair made their way to the 10th tee, which served as the first playoff hole. Chirravuri recorded an eagle on No. 10 to win the title.
Pepperdine flirted with history, as the Waves looked to top their West Coast Conference record of 49-under 815 set at Reflection Bay in Henderson, Nevada, in 2021. After carding rounds of 11-under and 19-under on Friday, Pepperdine finished 16-under for its round on Saturday to comfortably secure the top seed in match play with a 49-under 818 (277-269-272) in the three-round stroke play competition. The score is the second lowest for three rounds in West Coast Conference Championship history.
LMU was second with a total score of 34-under 830 (278-275-277). The Lions will face off with Santa Clara, who earned the third seed with a score of 26-under 838 (277-277-284). Saint Mary’s and Pacific battled all day for the fourth and final spot in match play, finishing in a tie for the fourth after three rounds with a 25-under 839. The Tigers scored the second-lowest round of stroke play in the event, with a 17-under 271 on Saturday, highlighted by a birdie from Astiazaran on 18 to bring Pacific even with Saint Mary’s.
The Gaels and Tigers staged their playoff on the back nine, with the cumulative score of all five golfers used to determine who will secure the final spot in match play. Pacific recorded 18 strokes and Saint Mary’s finished with 20 after each team finished their first playoff hole, as the Tigers earned the fourth and final spot.
The West Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship will conclude on Sunday with the semifinal and final rounds of match play from Green Valley Country Club. Pepperdine and Pacific will begin on the front nine, while LMU and Santa Clara will begin on the back nine.
