LAS VEGAS - No. 1 San Diego put the game out of reach early against No. 2 Gonzaga in an elimination game at the 2025 West Coast Conference Baseball Tournament from Las Vegas Ballpark. The Toreros beat the Bulldogs, 16-7, moving on to a second elimination game Friday night.
Two five-run innings in the first and the third ended things quickly. In the bottom of the first, already up 2-0, and with the bases loaded, Aden Howard laced a bases-clearing double down the right field line to make it 5-0 USD.
In the bottom of the third, following another two-run single by Howard, Jack Gurevitch blasted his second home run of the tournament, a three-run shot to make it 10-0, Toreros. Gurevitch homered again in the bottom of the seventh, giving him three for the tournament. He doubled in the bottom of the eighth off the left field wall, just missing his third homer.
Gurevitch's two roundtrippers accounted for two of the four USD home runs on the day. In the bottom of the sixth, USD padded its lead when Rex Watson homered to right-center, increasing the Torero lead to eight at 12-4. AJ Anzai also belted a homer, as well.
Gonzaga put a couple of runs on the board thanks to four RBI doubles by Mikey Bell, the 2025 West Coast Conference Player of the Year, Hudson Shupe, Jacob Wrubleski and Ty Yukumoto.
The Toreros will face the non-advancing team between No. 3 Saint Mary's and No. 4 LMU later tonight.
