BROOKLYN, NY – Washington State's Cedric Coward was selected 11th overall in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft on Wednesday.
Coward was selected 11th overall originally by the Portland Trailblazers but the pick was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Now boasting 32 NBA first round draft picks, Coward is the West Coast Conference's first draft selection in the first round since Brandin Podziemski (Santa Clara) and Julian Strawther (Gonzaga) were both drafted in the first round in 2023.
Coward extends a streak of three consecutive NBA Drafts that featured a Cougar getting drafted. He also became the program's first player to be selected in the first round since Malachi Flynn in 2020. Though he missed most of the season due to injury, at the time of injury, Coward ranked third in the Conference in scoring at 17.7 ppg.
