Fix Wins Men's Tennis Singles Player Of The Week

Portland wins two straight doubles team of the week awards

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Portland picked up West Coast Conference Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week accolades for the second straight week as Nikola Keremedchiev and Cade Fernando garnered the honors for the second straight week. David Fix from Pepperdine won Singles Player of the Week and Manvydas Balciunas from San Diego earned Freshman of the Week accolades. 
 
WEST COAST CONFERENCE SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEEK – DAVID FIX, SO. – PEPPERDINE
David Fix clinched the winning point for Pepperdine by defeating Yale's Ethan Chung in the Waves' 4-2 victory over the Bulldogs. He also faced a 4-0 deficit in the third set against Middle Tennessee State's Eric Crivei, but rallied to win 6-4, clinching the winning point again for Pepperdine in their 4-3 victory over MTSU. This is Fix's first conference weekly award this season and the fourth time a Wave has won Singles Player of the Week.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK – NIKOLA KEREMEDCHIEV, SR., CADE FERNANDO, JR., PORTLAND
Portland's No. 1 doubles tandem ran its win streak to eight matches with a 2-0 weekend at the Golden State Invite. The duo defeated Nevada's Rayen Hermassi and Nicolas Recoura 6-4 on Friday and then beat New Mexico State's Roko Stipetic and Tobias Wallin 7-5 on Saturday. They were leading host UC Davis 5-4 on Friday morning in a match that was abandoned after the Pilots clinched the doubles point. Portland now owns two conference weekly awards this season.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – MANVYDAS BALCIUNAS, FR. – SAN DIEGO
In doubles play, Manvydas Balciunas won his ninth doubles match of the season as he put No. 14 USD up first in doubles with a 7-5 win to help San Diego secure the doubles point over No. 34 Oklahoma State on the road. In singles play, Balciunas won 6-3, 6-4 on court four. The Toreros have now won five conference weekly awards this season.
