LAS VEGAS - No. 5 San Francisco jumped out to an early first-half lead but No. 4 Oregon State eventually pulled away and held on for a 78-77 win in the quarterfinals of the Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Championship from Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
With the victory, the Beavers advance to face No. 1 seed Gonzaga in the semifinals on Monday at 6 p.m.
Josiah Lake II and Isaiah Sy combined to score 30 of OSU's points with Lake II notching 18 and Sy posting 12. Lake II added seven assists, while Sy also garnered six rebounds.
For USF, Tyrone Riley IV led all players with 23 points, connecting on 10 of his 20 shot attempts. Legend Smiley posted 18 points, all on three-pointers. David Fuchs notched another double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. Ryan Beasley scored 19 points with seven assists.
The Beavers held a huge advanrtage over USF in bench points, outscoring the Dons in that category, 37-2. Stingy deffensively, the Beavers also notched six blocks.
