LAS VEGAS - No. 3 Santa Clara took control early and defeated No. 7 San Francisco 87-69 in the quarterfinals of the Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Women's Basketball Championship from Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
With the victory, the Broncos advance to face No. 2 seed Gonzaga in the semifinals on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Maia Jones led the way for the Broncos with 28 points on 9-for-15 shooting. She also shot 4-for-8 from behind the arc and grabbed six rebounds. Jones was one of four Broncos to reach double figures in scoring. Ashley Hawkins scored 11 points with six assists and four rebounds.
For the Dons, Candy Edokpaigbe hit the 20-point mark with 20 points scored. It was the second time in three tournament appearances where she led the Dons offensively. Mara Neira came close to reaching 20 points, scoring 17.
The Broncos shot over 40 percent from three-point distance, connecting on 10 of their 25 attempts.
