SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Battling to a win with a shortened lineup due to injury, Yura Nakagawa from Washington State was named West Coast Conference Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week. For the second week in a row, Helene Schnack from LMU won West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week. Portland's Alaia Rubio Perez and Maria Galatescu won West Coast Conference Doubles Team of the Week.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEEK – YURA NAKAGAWA, JR. – WASHINGTON STATE
Yura Nakagawa went 1-0 last week and her win proved to be the deciding victory in WSU's 4-3 win over Gonzaga. With WSU playing short-handed with only five healthy players, the Cougars had to forfeit at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. The Cougars trailed 3-1 before getting two singles wins, pushing the deciding match to No. 4 singles, where Nakagawa competed. She lost the first set 6-4 and trailed 4-0 lead before starting her comeback. Nakagawa won six straight games to take the second set to force a deciding third set. Nakagawa got an early break and rode it to a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win, giving WSU the team victory. The Cougars now own three conference weekly awards this season.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK – ALAIA RUBIO PEREZ, SR., MARIA GALATESCU, SO., PORTLAND
Portland's No. 1 doubles tandem of Alaia Rubio Perez and Maria Galatescu were instrumental in leading the Pilots to wins against Pacific and Saint Mary's by winning in both matches. The duo's 6-2 win against Pacific's Milena Maiorova and Indiya McLeod helped clinched the doubles point in an eventual 4-0 sweep. They later knocked off Sophia Daryaie and Tiana Fox from Saint Mary's, 7-2, in a tiebreaker to garner the doubles clinching point in Saturday's 6-1 win against Saint Mary's. Portland now owns two conference weekly awards this season.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – HELENE SCHNACK, FR. – LMU
During LMU's 6-1 victory over Santa Clara, Helene Schnack contributed to the doubles point with a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles before turning in one of the most commanding singles performances of the day. Competing on the No. 5 court, she was the first Lion off the court, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. LMU now owns seven conference weekly awards this season and Schnack has picked up conference freshman of the week accolades three times this season.
