West Coast Conference Announces 2026 Men's Tennis All-Conference Awards

Tarvet repeats as player of the year

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - After earning a share of the West Coast Conference regular season championship with Pepperdine and Santa Clara, San Diego won two of the 2026 West Coast Conference Men's Tennis major awards as the annual awards and all-conference teams were announced on Tuesday by the Conference. For the third straight year, Oliver Tarvet won Player of the Year while Manvydas Balciunas claimed Freshman of the Year accolades. Santa Clara's Niall Angus won Coach of the Year after guiding the Broncos to a share of their first conference regular season championship in program history.

Each of the all-conference team and individual honors are voted on solely by the head coaches of each West Coast Conference men’s tennis team.

Tarvet becomes the second men's tennis player in conference history to win three straight Player of the Year awards - Al Garland, Pepperdine, 2000-2002. Tarvet went 17-2 in singles matches this season, all on the top court. He finished 15-2 in doubles with multiple doubles partners, but playing primarily with Vincent Marysko (9-2). In the latest ITA rankings, Tarvet checks in at No. 19 in singles.

Balciunas went 13-4 in singles this season, having competed at least once on each of the top four courts. He went 6-0 while playing on the No. 2 court. In doubles, he went 14-4 in doubles overall, including going 12-4 with partner Stian Klaassen. A Torero has won Freshman of the Year in four of the last five years, with Tarvet included during that span. Both Balciunas and Tarvet were also named to the singles all-conference first team.

Angus becomes the first Santa Clara head coach to win Coach of the Year since Derek Mills in 2012. This is the fifth time overall that a Bronco has won Coach of the Year. Santa Clara went 19-3 overall this season and 6-1 in conference play after knocking off San Diego at home in the regular season finale to clinch a share of the regular season championship. In the latest ITA rankings, the Broncos check in at No. 35 as a team and the doubles tandem of Luca Bluett and John Kim rank No. 63 in the national doubles rankings. Bluett and Kim were tabbed to the doubles all-conference first team, as well.

USD, Pepperdine and Santa Clara each secured two players on the all-conference singles first team. They each garnered a player on the second team, as well. In doubles, Tarvet and Klaassen made the all-conference first team for the second straight year.

Tarvet and Edward Winter of Pepperdine boasted all-conference first-team honors for the third straight year. This year also marked the fourth straight year that Tarvet picked up first-team recognition in singles.
