Gonzaga Takes Two Rawlings Baseball Player of the Week Awards

Sniffen wins player of the week from Saint Mary's

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – During the series win over San Diego last week, Makoa Sniffen from Saint Mary's batted 11-for-18 with six extra base hits in winning Rawlings West Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week. Gonzaga claimed the other two weekly awards as Karsten Sweum won Rawlings West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week and Landon Hood once again won Rawlings West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week. 

RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – MAKOA SNIFFEN, SO., INF – SAINT MARY'S
Makoa Sniffen posted a .611 batting average last week. He produced multi-hit performances in all four games last week including six extra-base hits and five RBI. He collected three doubles, two triples and homered in the series opener against San Diego. During Saturday's win over the Toreros, Sniffen went 4-for-5 with a double and a triple. This is the second time this season that Sniffen has claimed conference player of the week accolades.

RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – KARSTEN SWEUM, SO., LHP – GONZAGA
Karsten Sweum earned the win in a dominant outing last Saturday, carrying a perfect game through the first six innings. Sweum only allowed four baserunners over 7.2 innings, retiring the first 18 batters he saw. He struck out 10 batters, good for his second straight home game with double-digit punchouts. This is the second time this season that Sweum has claimed conference player of the week accolades.

RAWLINGS WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASEBALL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – LANDON HOOD, FR., RHP – GONZAGA
Landon Hood picked up the save on Friday's win, throwing 2.1 scoreless innings in securing the victory. Hood did not allow a hit while giving up only two walks, posting a 0.86 WHIP. He struck out six batters, good for a 23.14 K/9 ratio. This is the second straight week and fifth time this season that Hood won conference freshman of the week honors.
