SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Odhi Vasquez from Saint Mary's has been named a National Pitcher of the Week by Softball America, D1 Softball and Softball On SI as announced by the media outlets on Tuesday.
This is the first national weekly award for West Coast Conference softball this season. In addition to the national recognition, Vasquez also collected West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week accolades this week.
Vasquez earned the win in all three Gaels' victories against No. 14 Washington (twice) and No. 24 Stanford. Vasquez went the distance in the weekend opener against the Huskies, a 5-2 come-from-behind victory. In the next game against Washington, she came out of the pen in an 11-inning gauntlet, entering the game in the seventh tied at two, and worked five scoreless frames, allowing SMC to pull ahead in the top of the 11th before she closed it out in the bottom of the inning. Rounding out the week in the win over Stanford, Vasquez tossed the final three innings, allowing just one hit and no runs against the Cardinal.
Vasquez is currently on a streak of 17 consecutive outings without a loss. She has already tallied a career-best 15 wins, one of just 17 players in the country with 15-plus wins. She also tied the program record with her 46th career victory with the victory against Stanford.
