SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference had another strong season in men’s golf, highlighted by Pepperdine and San Diego making an appearance at the NCAA Championships at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., for the second year in a row.
In the NCAA regionals, four programs and three individuals from two different teams earned spots in three regional locations.
Pepperdine earned its 29th NCAA Regional selection with a No. 3 seed in the Winston-Salem Regional. At the regional, the Waves tied for first, earning the first NCAA Regional win in program history and advanced to the NCAA Championships in Carlsbad. Mahanth Chirravuri finished 13-under at the regional and teammate Willy Walsh joined him in the top 10, finishing tied for 10th at seven-under.
San Diego earned an NCAA regional bid for the sixth consecutive season with a No. 7 seed in the Corvallis Regional. Oregon State hosted the regional and earned a No. 10 seed. Washington State’s Dylan Boenning and Sam Renner were selected as individuals in the regional, as well. After defeating Liberty in a playoff, the Toreros earned a fifth-place finish after going nine-under during the three rounds to earn a trip to Carlsbad for the NCAA Championships. Oregon State finished in seventh at six-under. The Beavers’ Nguyen Anh Minh was the conference’s top finisher in the Corvallis Regional, finishing tied for 18th at three-under.
Saint Mary’s was the No. 11 seed in the Marana Regional, the Gaels first NCAA regionals appearance since 2019. Joining Saint Mary’s in Arizona was LMU’s Trevor Algya. The Gaels finished the regional in ninth place at three-under with Aidan Lee finishing tied for sixth at eleven-under.
At the NCAA Championships, Pepperdine did not make the first cut of the top 15 as a team and finished the NCAA Championships at three-under over three days. Two individuals kept playing for the Waves in round four, as Willy Walsh and Chirravuri made the cut. Walsh finished the final day shooting three-under to move up five spots to 10th place while Chirravuri was even on the day to finish 23rd.
San Diego survived the round three cuts of the top 15 to continue playing as a team in Carlsbad. The Toreros finished play on the fourth day to earn a 15th-place finish, marking the program’s best finish at the national championships since 2011.
Pepperdine finished No. 14 in the final SCOREBOARD team rankings of the season, with San Diego coming in at No. 38. The West Coast Conference also had six other programs within the top 100 – Oregon State (No. 57), Saint Mary’s (No. 67), Washington State (No. 68), Pacific (No. 78), LMU (No. 82) and Santa Clara (No. 91). Individually, Chirravuri ranks No. 9 in the nation and Walsh ranks No. 31. Anh Minh ranked No. 33 and Pepperdine’s Brady Siravo is No. 56. The West Coast Conference’s Individual Medalist Ian Maspat of San Diego collected a national ranking of No. 60.
Four West Coast Conference student-athletes earned All-America honors this year. Chirravuri earned both PING an Golfweek First Team honors while Walsh was a Golfweek Honorable Mention. Maspat also earned a PING Honorable Mention and Anh Minh collected Golfweek Honorable Mention.
