Pepperdine Leads Women's Golf Round 1

SANTEE, Calif. - Gonzaga sophomore Jessica Mangrobang is the day one solo leader, and Pepperdine leads the team standings by two strokes after the first round of the 2018 West Coast Conference Championships on Monday at Carlton Oaks Golf Club in Santee, Calif.

The Waves shot a 15-over 303 at the par-72 Riverside Country Club, finishing one stroke ahead of Brigham Young's 304. A pair of Waves - Momoka Kobori and Tatiana Wijaya - sit tied for second with 2-over 74's on the day to help put Pepperdine into the lead. A third Wave, Hira Naveed, is tied for 7th at 75. Three Cougars also sit in the Top 10 after the first round of play.

With 36-holes remaining, Gonzaga sits third at 309 behind the leading performance of Mangrobang, followed by San Francisco (311) and Santa Clara (315).

Play continues with the second round on Tuesday at 8:20 a.m. PT. The third and final round is Wednesday.

Mangrobang holds a one-shot lead over five players with a 73 (+1) in her first round. After bogeying her opening hole, number 10, she birdied four of the last five holes in her first nine, two par-fours, a par-three, and a par-five, to go two-under par on her front nine. She went +3 on the back, but did birdie the par-four fifth hole. She led the field in birdies with five and was second, going one-under, on the par-five holes. Mangrobang is the first Zag to lead after the first day at the WCC Championships since Alice Kim fired a 69 in Bremerton, Wash. in 2014.
