Pepperdine Sweeps Women’s Golf Major Awards

Eunseo Choi voted Player of the Year, Kylee Choi named Freshman of the Year and Laurie Gibbs honored as Coach of the Year

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Eunseo Choi was voted the West Coast Conference Women’s Golf Player of the Year, Kylee Choi was named the Conference’s Freshman of the Year and Laurie Gibbs was honored as the league’s Coach of the Year as West Coast Conference Champion Pepperdine swept the league’s major awards.
 
All three major awards, along with the all-conference team, were voted on solely by the league’s eight head coaches.
 
West Coast Conference individual champion Eunseo Choi has won two tournaments and placed in the top 15 in each of her last five events. She carded a conference-record 9-under 207 (71-68-68) to win conference championship medalist honors at Green Valley Country Club. The win marked her third career individual title. She also won the Fresno State Classic in March and placed fourth at the Yale Invitational later that month. She was honored as the West Coast Conference Golfer of the Month for March. The sophomore ranks 25th in the SCOREBOARD individual rankings with a scoring average of 69.8. It is the 21st time a Pepperdine player has won the West Coast Conference Player of the Year award.
 
Kylee Choi finished fifth at the West Coast Conference Championship with a 1-over 217 (70-74-73). She has finished in the top five in four of the last five events she has played in. Kylee Choi placed third in the Bruin Wave Invitational in February and fourth in both the Betsy Rawls Invitational and the Fresno State Classic in March, along with an 11th-place finish in the Yale Invitational that month. The freshman ranks 24th in the SCOREBOARD individual rankings with a scoring average of 70.0. It is the 19th time a Pepperdine player has been honored as the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year.
 
Gibbs was voted the Coach of the Year for the 17th time in her career. She guided Pepperdine to its fourth conference title in the last five seasons after winning the championship. Gibbs has been honored as the Coach of the Year four times in the last five years.
 
Pepperdine had the most players on the all-conference team with four, while Oregon State had three members. Gonzaga, San Francisco and Santa Clara each had one selection to the 10-person team. Honorable mention selections were individuals who finished in the top 10 of the West Coast Conference Championship who were not already selected to the all-conference team.
 
Gonzaga’s Grace Lee and Pepperdine’s Jeneath Wong have been all-conference selections each of their four seasons. Wong was the 2024 West Coast Conference Player of the Year, while Lee was the 2023 West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year. San Francisco’s Eva Pett is a three-time All-West Coast Conference selection. Oregon State’s Kyra Ly and Raya Nakao have been members of the all-conference team each of their two years competing in the West Coast Conference.
 
Eunseo Choi has been an all-conference selection each of her first two years. She was voted the 2025 Freshman of the Year. Santa Clara’s Kelsey Kim, who was the 2024 West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, is a first-time all-conference honoree along with Pepperdine senior Yingzhi Zhu, Waves freshman Kylee Choi and OSU freshman Kate Nakaoka.
