SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Pepperdine and Oregon State each received selections to the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Regionals, giving the conference multiple NCAA bids for the third time in the past five seasons. Santa Clara’s Kelsey Kim and San Francisco’s Eva Pett earned selections as individuals, as four West Coast Conference teams will be represented in the NCAA Regionals.
Pepperdine, who captured the West Coast Conference championship on Monday, received the Conference’s automatic bid and has been selected as the No. 2 seed in the Stanford Regional. Oregon State, who finished second in the West Coast Conference Championship, earned an at-large selection and will be the No. 9 seed in the Stanford Regional. Kim and Pett will also compete in the Stanford Regional.
The Stanford Regional will be played at the Stanford Golf Course on the Stanford University campus. The regional will feature (by seed): No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Pepperdine, No. 3 Vanderbilt, No. 4 Arizona State, No. 5 Missouri, No. 6 Arizona, No. 7 CSU Fullerton, No. 8 Illinois, No. 9 Oregon State No. 10 Cal Poly, No. 11 South Dakota State and No. 12 Navy.
The Waves, who are making their 27th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance, won the West Coast Conference Championship at Green Valley Country Club in Fairfield, California with a 1-over 865 for the three-round event. They captured the team title by 14 strokes over second-place Oregon State. Pepperdine sophomore Eunseo Choi was the conference championship medalist with a 9-under 207 for three rounds.
Pepperdine, ranked No. 11 in the latest SCOREBOARD rankings, is looking to advance from the regional to the NCAA Championship for the third time in the last four years and 15th time in program history. Last season, Pepperdine earned an at-large selection and finished ninth in the Lexington Regional.
Oregon State, ranked No. 50 in the latest SCOREBOARD rankings, is making its ninth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. The Beavers earned the Conference’s automatic qualification last season and finished seventh in the Norman Regional.
Pett and Kim are part of the group of 36 individuals selected to the six NCAA Regionals. Kim is ranked No. 178 in the SCOREBOARD rankings. She finished seventh in the West Coast Conference Championship and has five top-10 finishes this spring. Pett is ranked No. 206 in the SCOREBOARD rankings. She was the West Coast Conference Golfer of the Month for February after winning the Causeway Invitational, hosted by UC Davis. She has four top-15 finishes this spring.
The six NCAA Regional sites, contested May 11-13, will feature 12 teams and six individuals not associated with the teams. The three-day regional will consist of one round each day. The top five teams and the low individual not on an advancing team at each regional site will move on to the NCAA Championship, held on the Champions Course at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, May 22-27.
