SANTEE, Calif. - No. 33 Pepperdine extended its lead entering the final round of the West Coast Conference Men's Golf Championship shooting a 5-under 283 and owns a commanding lead against surging No. 40 BYU who vaulted from seventh place to second after firing a 13-under 275 at the Carlton Oaks Golf Club on Tuesday.
Pepperdine and BYU were the only teams to go under as a team on the par-72 course playing at 7,122 yards. The Waves enter the final round with a daunting 9-stroke lead against the defending WCC Champion Cougars at 4-under overall.
Saint Mary's is third at 2-over, followed by No. 50 Santa Clara at 5-over and No. 45 San Francisco at 9-over.
There was plenty of shuffling atop the individual leaderboard as Loyola Marymount's Riley Elmes and BYU's Rhett Rasmussen share the overall lead at 6-under 138. Elmes carded a 5-under 67, bested by a 6-under 66 by Rasmussen who was 7-under on his first nine holes.
Pepperdine's Clay Feagler (70, 69) is third at 5-under after posting a 3-under 69 Tuesday, while round one leader Perry Cohen (66, 74) of Saint Mary's and BYU's Patrick Fishburn (71, 69) share fourth at 4-under. Pepperdine's Joshua McCarthy (68, 73) is sixth at 3-under.
Final round play at the 2018 WCC Men's Golf Championship gets underway Wednesday, April 18. The men will be going off No. 1 tee starting at 7:50 a.m. Live results will be available via GolfStat.com .
