Gonzaga, BYU Earn WCC Men’s Tennis Weekly Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named Gonzaga’s Vincent Rettke the West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week and the BYU duo of Sam Tullis and Ben Gajardo the Doubles Team of the Week.
 
Rettke went 3-0 in singles on the week, helping Gonzaga go 2-1 on the road with wins over two WCC opponents. First on Friday, he was the clinching point in a 4-1 win over San Francisco with a come-from-behind 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Phuc Huynh. On Saturday, he clinched the match once again in a 4-3 in over Santa Clara with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over Robert Seby. In the finale for the week, he earned a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over UC Davis’ Daniel Landa.
 
Tullis and Gajardo become the third BYU doubles team to earn a weekly honor after the duo clinched the doubles point for the Cougars at No. 2 doubles with a 6-4 victory over the No. 46 doubles team in the nation, San Diego’s Joel Gamerov and August Holmgren. This win continued the duo’s 14-0 win streak for the season.
