WCC Men's Golf Championship Tees Off Thursday

Five WCC programs ranked in the top-80 nationally

ABOUT THE 2019 WCC MEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

  • The 2019 West Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship will be held at the Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif. The event runs Thursday, April 25 to Saturday, April 27. 
  • No. 33 Pepperdine rolled to a dominating victory at the 2018 West Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship. Led by medalist Clay Feagler, who flirted with the course record with a 14-under 202, the Waves set a WCC record at 26-under 838.
  • In 2018, a WCC-record five schools competed in NCAA Regionals: No. 33 Pepperdine and No. 39 BYU joined all three Bay Area schools - Saint Mary’s, San Francisco and Santa Clara in the postseason.
  • BYU advanced to NCAA Nationals along with Pepperdine’s Josh McCarthy. It is the second straight season a WCC program advanced to Nationals (Pepperdine, 2017)


WCC GOLF 2018-19 QUICK HITS

  • Two WCC programs are ranked in the top-40 in the most current Golfstat rankings: No. 17 Pepperdine & No. 36 BYU. Saint Mary’s (51), San Francisco (71) & Santa Clara (84) rate in the top-100.
  • The Cougars and Waves each won a pair of events in 2018-19. BYU won the William H. Tucker Invitational and its own Cougar Classic, while Pepperdine won the Alister Mackenzie Invitational and the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational. 
  • Three WCC student-athletes rank in the top-80 nationally according to GolfStat: BYU’s Peter Kuest (7), Pepperdine’s Clay Feagler (29) & Joshua McCarthy (80)
  • Defending champion Pepperdine has finished first or second at the WCC Championships in 25 of the last 32 seasons securing a conference-best 19 titles. San Francisco is next with 11. Since 2010 BYU (2), Pepperdine (3) & Saint Mary’s (3) have won multiple championships. The Dons won the 2011 event.
