SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its University Credit Union Men’s Tennis Singles Player and Doubles Team of the Week for March 30, 2021.
 
UCU #WCCSPORTS SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEEK – ELEFTHERIOS NEOS, JR. – PORTLAND
Portland junior Eleftherios Neos helped the Pilots open West Coast Conference play with a pair of wins against San Diego and Gonzaga last week. Neos and the Pilots knocked off San Diego for just the second time in program history on Thursday at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The Ayia Napa, Cyprus native was instrumental with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Nico Borter at the No. 2 position. Portland then traveled to Gonzaga on Saturday and Neos providing the match clinching point. After dropping the opening set of No. 2 singles to Leon Roider, he won the second 6-4 and then took the third set tiebreaker by a 7-5 margin to complete the comeback. Neos improved to March 25: No. 2 Singles, Neos (UP) def. Nico Borter (USD) 6-4, 6-4 March 27: No. 2 Singles, Neos (UP) def. Leon Roider (GU) 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5).

UCU #WCCSPORTS DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK – ELEFTHERIOS NEOS & ISSA YOSHIDA – PORTLAND
Portland juniors Eleftherios Neos and Issa Yoshida went 2-0 and providing the clinching doubles point in both matches at No. 1 doubles as the Pilots opened WCC play with wins against San Diego and Gonzaga. The duo gave Portland momentum against league power San Diego with a 7-4 tiebreak win. The Pilots would go on to beat the Toreros 5-2 for the just the second win in program history against USD. Two days later it followed a similar script. This time on the road at Gonzaga the tandem pulled out a 7-5 tiebreaker to clinch the all-important doubles point. The Pilots would go on to win 5-2 a thriller that came down to the wire. March 25: No. 1 Doubles def. Holmgren/Norfeldt (USD) 7-6 (4) March 27: No. 1 Doubles def. Theo McDonald/Pablo Gomez Galvan (GU) 7-6 (5)
