Unveiling the 2020-21 WCC Women’s Tennis All-Academic Team

Pepperdine All-American Ashley Lahey makes fourth All-Academic First Team

SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has announced its Women’s Tennis All-Academic Team for the 2021 season. This year’s 13-member first team encompasses WCC student-athletes who excelled both on the court and in the classroom.

Five women’s tennis programs placed at least one student-athlete on the first team led by four apiece from 2021 NCAA National Runner-Up Pepperdine and Gonzaga. BYU and 2021 NCAA Tournament participant San Diego both placed a pair on the first team.

This year’s squad features three repeat appearances headlined by Pepperdine All-American and 2021 WCC Mike Gilleran Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Ashley Lahey who make the first team for an unprecedented fourth time. San Diego’s Kati Kukaras and Portland’s Emily Soares make their third and final first team appearance.

No fewer than 36 women’s tennis student-athletes qualified for academic honors. Nearly 20 posted a GPA of at least 3.50, while 11 posted marks of 3.75 or better.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
