FAIRFIELD, Calif. - No. 1 seed Pepperdine swept No. 4 LMU in the semifinals of the West Coast Conference Women's Tennis Tournament at the Green Valley Country Club in Fairfield, Calif.
Pepperdine rolled through doubles with a 6-0 win on the No. 1 court and a 6-2 win on the second court to give the Waves the early advantage.
That momentum continued into singles with Sonja Zhiyenbayeva, the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, finishing first with a 7-5, 6-1 win on the No. 3 court.
The next two wins for the Waves came back-to-back. Chantal Sauvant won in straight sets on court four, 6-4, 6-1. A couple moments later, Duru Soke won on court five, 6-2, 6-4.
With the win, the Waves will play in Saturday's championship match at 2 p.m.
