SAN MATEO, Calif. – Pepperdine has once again been selected as the favorite to win the 2023 West Coast Conference Women’s Tennis regular season title in the WCC's preseason poll that was announced on Thursday.
The preseason poll and All-WCC preseason team were selected solely by a vote of the conference's 10 head coaches. Coaches cannot vote for their own teams and student-athletes.
In the Oracle/ITA Division I Women’s preseason rankings, Pepperdine is currently ranked No. 10, while San Diego is receiving votes. Pepperdine received nine first-place votes and 81 total points in the WCC poll. The Waves were followed by the Toreros and LMU, each receiving 69 points, with USD earning the other first-place vote.
Pepperdine defeated San Diego to claim its eighth consecutive West Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament Championship in 2022. The Waves went on to advance to the quarterfinals in the NCAA Tournament.
Pepperdine claimed half of the spots on the six-player preseason team with San Diego, LMU and BYU also having a player represented on the preseason squad.
The 2023 season gets underway on Friday, Jan. 13.
