WSU Takes Two WCC Volleyball Player Of The Week Awards

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Washington State claimed two of the West Coast Conference Volleyball player of the week awards this week. The Credit Union 1 WCC Offensive Player of the Week went to Katy Ryan of the Cougars and the Credit Union 1 Freshman of the Week honor went to Lucie Blazkova. LMU's Sam Hastings won Credit Union 1 WCC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. 

CREDIT UNION 1 WCC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – KATY RYAN, SR., OH – WASHINGTON STATE
Katy Ryan helped WSU go 2-0 last week with 47 kills and 50.5 points, along with a a .471 hitting percentage. Ryan notched a career-best 30 kills in the team's win over Saint Mary's, the most in a single match in the Conference last week. She averaged 5.22 kills per set, 5.61 points per set, and six blocks. This is Ryan's first Conference weekly award this season and the fourth for the Cougars.

CREDIT UNION 1 WCC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – SAM HASTINGS, SR., LB – LMU
Sam Hastings recorded 46 digs and 46 service receptions. Against San Diego, she led both teams with 23 digs, averaging 4.60 digs per set. In the victory over Pepperdine, she once again tallied 23 digs, topping the team's defensive efforts. Her outstanding performance was pivotal in the Lions' undefeated week. Hastings has now won this award two times in the last three weeks.

CREDIT UNION 1 WCC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – LUCIE BLAZKOVA, FR., MB – WASHINGTON STATE
Lucie Blazkova helped the Cougars go 2-0 last week on both sides of the ball with five solo blocks, and finished with a total of 13 blocks (1.44 blocks per set), both of which were the second most in the league last week. On offense, she tallied 25 points on the weekend with 15 kills and a .378 hitting percentage. She averaged 1.67 kills, 1.44 blocks and 2.78 points per set. This is Blazkova's first Conference weekly award this season and the second time in the last three weeks that a Cougar has won this award.
