Broncos Win Two West Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week Awards

San Diego and Oregon State claim the other conference awards this week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – After defeating Pepperdine for the first time since 2017 last weekend, Santa Clara won two of the West Coast Conference's Volleyball weekly awards with Cate Shanahan capturing West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Macy Hinshaw winning West Coast Conference Setter of the Week. San Diego's Ava Durgan won West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week for the second straight week and Oregon State earned another conference weekly award with Tia Shum winning West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week. 
 
WEST COAST CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – CATE SHANAHAN, SO., OH – SANTA CLARA
Cate Shanahan led the Broncos to a split in conference play last weekend, including Santa Clara's first win over Pepperdine since 2017. Shanahan posted a career-high 26 kills against the Waves, becoming the first Bronco to tally 25 or more kills since Layla Truitt on Nov. 10, 2022. She added eight digs, following up her third double-double of the season with 16 kills and 11 digs against Oregon State. Shanahan totaled 42 kills in two matches, averaging 5.25 kills per set. She also had 19 digs in two games this week, averaging 2.38 digs per set.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – TIA SHUM, GR., DS/L – OREGON STATE
Tia Shum garnered 34 digs - averaging 4.25 per set - in Oregon State's 2-0 weekend, which improved the Beavers' conference record to 4-0. In the four-set win at San Francisco, she notched five aces and accounted for five points. In the first win of the weekend at Santa Clara, Shum amassed 18 digs, which was a season high. Oregon State now owns five conference weekly awards this season and this is the second straight week that a Beaver won defensive player of the week.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – AVA DURGAN, FR., MB – SAN DIEGO
The two-time West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week, Ava Durgan totaled 14 kills while hitting .500 last week along with three digs and four blocks, helping San Diego sweep both Saint Mary's and Pacific on the road. Across both matches she averaged 2.33 kills per set. She garnered eight kills while hitting .357 on Thursday night in Moraga as she added a dig and a block. Durgan later hit .750 last Saturday at Pacific, totaling six kills, a pair of digs, and three blocks. San Diego now owns seven conference weekly awards this season.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE SETTER OF THE WEEK – MACY HINSHAW, SO., S – SANTA CLARA
Macy Hinshaw led the Broncos to a split in conference play last weekend, including Santa Clara's first win over Pepperdine since 2017. She posted back-to-back double-doubles for her sixth and seventh games recording double figures in assists and digs this season. Against Oregon State, Macy notched 38 assists and 16 digs, and she was an instrumental part of the Broncos' historic win over Pepperdine with 49 assists and 10 digs. Hinshaw totaled 87 assists over two games last week, averaging 10.88 assists per set. She also tallied 26 digs last week, averaging 3.25 digs per set. Hinshaw owns three of Santa Clara's four conference weekly awards this season.
