Oregon State Captures West Coast Conference Women’s Golf Championship

Oregon State’s Raya Nakao wins the West Coast Conference Individual title on the second playoff hole

FAIRFIELD, Calif. – In an action-packed final round of the 2025 West Coast Conference Women’s Golf Championship, Oregon State came out on top. The Beavers secured the conference title by two strokes over defending champion Pepperdine on Saturday afternoon at Green Valley Country Club in Fairfield, California. Oregon State finished the conference championship with a 5-over 869 (286-290-293).

The West Coast Conference individual title was decided in a playoff, as Oregon State’s Raya Nakao defeated San Francisco’s Eva Pett on the second playoff hole to secure medalist honors. Nakao (66-74-72) and Pett (71-71-70) each finished the 54-hole tournament with a 4-under 212. Both individuals recorded a bogey on the first playoff hole. On the second playoff hole, Nakao’s chip shot from behind the bunker came to a rest five feet from the cup. Following a bogey by Pett, Nakao sunk her par putt and captured the individual crown.

Nakao and Pett were first and second, respectively, after two rounds. Pett started Saturday’s final round with birdies on four of her first seven holes to surge ahead and take a three-stroke lead, as Nakao was 1-over for the day through seven. Pett finished the round with a 2-under 70. Nakao enjoyed a bogey-free back nine, highlighted by a birdie on the 15th hole to record even par for the round and force the playoff.

Pepperdine’s Jeneath Wong was right behind the leaders with a 2-under for the day and finished the tournament one stroke back of Nakao and Pett with a 3-under 213 (69-74-70) to place third.

In the team competition, Pepperdine had an early surge on Saturday to erase a three-stroke deficit and tie the Beavers for the lead. A pair of birdies by Rebecca Kim, along with birdies from Kyra Ly and Clara Alevag put Oregon State back in the lead by two strokes and the Beavers never looked back, winning the team title by that same margin. Santa Clara finished third.

Saturday marked Nakao’s first career collegiate championship and the first conference title for Oregon State head coach Dawn Shockley. Nakao tied the course record with a 6-under 66 to open the 54-hole tournament on Thursday and led after both the first and second rounds.
