Zhiyenbayeva Repeats As Women's Tennis Freshman Of The Week

Portland's Alaia Rubio Perez takes player of the week honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – For the second straight week to open the season, Sonja Zhiyenbayeva from No. 13 Pepperdine won West Coast Conference Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week. Portland's Alaia Rubio Perez won West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week while Anni Moll and Hannah Read from San Diego won West Coast Conference Doubles Team of the Week.  
 
WEST COAST CONFERENCE SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEEK – ALAIA RUBIO PEREZ, SR. – PORTLAND
Alaia Rubio Perez won both of her singles matches on the road, on court one and in straight sets last weekend. She defeated Madison Warren of Stonehill College 6-1, 6-1 in Portland's 7-0 sweep. Rubio Perez later was a 7-6, 6-1 winner against Ali Maguy of Brown. This is Portland's first conference weekly award this season.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK – ANNI MOLL, SO., HANNAH READ, SO., SAN DIEGO
Hannah Read and Anni Moll registered a pair of dominant 6-2 wins in doubles to contribute to two doubles points clinched for USD in its 6-1 and 5-2 wins over BYU and Cal Poly. This is San Diego's first conference weekly award this season.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – SONJA ZHIYENBAYEVA, FR. – PEPPERDINE
Sonja Zhiyenbayeva earned the first ranked win of her career at No. 3 singles against Clemson, defeating No. 71 Ria Bhakta (7-6, 6-1) from Clemson. Pepperdine now owns four conference weekly awards this season.
