Karsten Sweum From Gonzaga Named NCBWA Dick Howser Trophy National Co-Pitcher Of The Week

Sweum garners the West Coast Conference's second national weekly award this season

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Karsten Sweum from Gonzaga has been named a National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Dick Howser Trophy National Co-Pitcher of the Week by the organization as announced on Tuesday.

This is the second national weekly award for West Coast Conference baseball this season after Sweum's teammate Maddox Haley was previously recognized as an NCBWA Co-Hitter of the Week earlier this season. In addition to the national recognition, Sweum also collected West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week accolades this week.

Sweum threw a no-hitter last Saturday, the sixth no-hitter in program history. The victory also clinched the conference regular season championship for the Bulldogs. He only had to get 21 outs thanks to a run-rule shortened game, striking out 15 of those batters. Sweum allowed just two walks and struck out 11 of the 12 total batters he faced in the middle four innings of his start. He needed just 93 pitches for the no-hitter, throwing 63 of those for strikes.

The Bulldog was tabbed national co-pitcher of the week along with Arkansas State's Ckyler Tengler. Merrimack's Greg Cristino AND UIC’S Ashton Campa were tabbed the national co-hitters of the week.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport.
