SAN BRUNO, Calif. - San Francisco edged a little closer to Gonzaga in the West Coast Conference Baseball standings after the Dons took two out of three on the road against Pepperdine and Santa Clara took two out of three over the Bulldogs in Spokane. The Dons and Bulldogs will meet this weekend in San Francisco.
Action continues this week with the Bulldogs in first place at 16-5 in league play, three games up on USF (13-8). After sweeping LMU last weekend, Pacific is tied with Pepperdine for third at 12-9.

This Week
Games started on Monday with Gonzaga topping Washington State, 10-5. On Tuesday with seven non-conference games, highlighted by wins by Seattle U over Washington and Santa Clara topping Cal Poly, 11-4. In a close battle that went extra innings, Oregon State held off Portland in 12 innings, 6-4.
Also, Wednesday night will feature USF heading to Stanford at 6 p.m.
In addition to the weekend series featuring the matchup of the top two teams in the league - USF and Gonzaga, Pacific looks to keep its hot streak going back in Stockton when San Diego visits. Pepperdine looks to hold on to third place as the Waves host Portland in Malibu
Fresh off winning the series on the road over the Bulldogs, Santa Clara remains on the road this week and in the Pacific Northwest at Seattle U. In Southern California, LMU hosts Saint Mary's.
Last Week
Conference play began last week in Portland with the Pilots topping San Diego, 9-6, and the Pilots went on to take two out of three in the series over the Toreros.
A key series in Malibu featured the second-place Dons battling the third-place Waves. USF took game one, 10-4, before Tommy Scavone led the charge in Pepperdine evening the series with a 4-0 PEPP win. The Dons took the rubber match on Sunday, 2-0, to remain all alone in second place.
Behind strong pitching from Garret Plata and Zach Todd, Pacific swept LMU at home, including an 8-0 score on Friday and 15-9 on Saturday.
Santa Clara cooled off Gonzaga by taking two out of three in Spokane. The Broncos put an exclamation mark on the weeked with a 12-4 final in Sunday's rubber match. Landon Hood continues to be a force as a freshman, though, for the Bulldogs. The freshman struck out every batter he faced in earning the save during Saturday's 7-6 Gonzaga win.
Seattle U remains in contention to qualify for the conference tournament in the Redhawks first season returning to the West Coast Conference. A road series victory over Saint Mary's last weekend helped their chances.
Stat Leaders
At the plate, Makoa Sniffen from Saint Mary's ranks sixth in the nation with 77 hits and he ranks tied for 19th with 131 total bases. His .391 batting average also paces the conference. Mikey Bell from Gonzaga ranks tied for seventh in the nation with 20 doubles.
On the mound, Pacific's Garret Plata ranks eighth nationally in ERA (1.78). Not far behind is Portland's Will Labonte at No. 27 (2.40).
In the conference ranks, Sniffen tops the league in RBI (50) along with Ryder Young from Gonzaga. Young also leads the league in home runs with 12 and Sniffen is right behind him with 11.
