Pepperdine Picked to Defend WCC Women's Golf Title

Waves enter the 2019-20 season ranked in the top-25

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – After earning a top-25 preseason ranking, Pepperdine was a unanimous choice to defend its West Coast Conference Women’s Golf Championship. The Waves captured 16 points, including the maximum of four first-place votes in the preseason survey of the WCC’s five head coaches.

Four programs placed at least two student-athletes on the preseason All-WCC team, led by three selections from San Francisco. BYU, Pepperdine and Santa Clara each placed a pair on the squad, comprised of four sophomores, four juniors and two seniors.

Pepperdine snapped a string of three straight WCC titles for BYU last season with a three-shot victory at the Manito Country Club. The Cougars were picked second this season with 12 votes, good for a one-vote edge over third-place San Francisco. The Dons earned the remaining first place vote.

Pepperdine represented the conference in NCAA Regional action last season. It was the 21st consecutive NCAA Regional appearance for the Waves.

Six preseason All-WCC selections earned 2018-19 All-WCC First Team accolades: BYU – Naomi Soifua; Gonzaga – 2019 WCC Freshman of the Year Quynn Duong; Pepperdine – Kathrine Chan & Momoka Kobori; San Francisco – Annika Borrelli; Santa Clara – Sarah Busey & Emily Sumner.

The 2020 West Coast Conference Women’s Golf Championship will be held at Reflection Bay Golf Club in Henderson, Nev. The tournament runs April 23-25.
