PAST WCC POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – At the conclusion of each academic year, the West Coast Conference announces its major individual year-end honors as a celebration of the best and brightest to represent the Conference and its member institutions.
Today, the West Coast Conference is pleased to announce the 2020 WCC Postgraduate Scholarship recipients.
University of the Pacific men's golf student-athlete
Beau Forest was named the Male Postgraduate Scholarship winner, while Pepperdine University volleyball student-athlete
Hannah Frohling was named the Female Postgraduate Scholarship winner.
Forest is the second Tiger to win a Postgraduate Scholarship since the award's inception in 2004 and the first since Sem Verbeek collected the honor in 2016. Frohling is the third winner overall from the Waves and the first female Pepperdine student-athlete to capture the award.
To be eligible for a WCC Postgraduate Scholarship, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25, demonstrate significant athletic contributions to his or her sport for a minimum of two years, and have a record of participation in campus or community activities. He or she also must submit a personal statement of intention to attend graduate or professional school for which this scholarship would be awarded.
BEAU FOREST, UNIVERSITY OF THE PACIFIC, MEN'S GOLF
A four-year Pacific Powell Scholar who has excelled at an elite level in the classroom, Forest turned in an unblemished 4.00 GPA while pursuing his undergraduate and graduate coursework. A four-year golf letter-winner, Forest competed in 21 events for the Tigers, earning two WCC First Team All-Academic selections. In addition to completing his MS in Engineering Management in May, Forest collected the Pacific School of Engineering and Computer Science Academic “Excellence in Computer Science” honors and served as class Valedictorian. While active in the campus and local communities, Forest spent three years working on a research project focused on applying computer science to biophysics.
Forest plans to pursue a career in the computer science sector and will undergo PhD studies in the future. He will work for Hewlett-Packard Enterprises beginning in July.
HANNAH FROHLING, PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY, VOLLEYBALL
A four-year Regent Scholar, a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and a three-time WCC All-Academic First Team member, Frohling posted a 3.95 cumulative GPA in Sports Medicine while competing in 121 matches during her standout four-year career. A three-time team captain, she captured All-WCC First Team honors as a junior and senior and ranks sixth in Pepperdine in kills, seventh in points and eighth in aces. The 2020 Wave of the Year honoree led Pepperdine to its first NCAA Tournament in seven years as a junior in 2018 despite immense adversity caused by the carnage of the fires raging in Southern California. A member of the Waves Leadership Council (SAAC), Frohling also served on the Student Philanthropy Council and represented Pepperdine as its WCC Executive Council STAR in 2019.
Frohling plans to pursue a doctorate in Physical Therapy and has been accepted to the University of Southern California.
